Armed and Dangerous: Destroying Virginia's Invasive Species With Volunteers

Want to make a difference in Virginia’s on-going fight against invasive species?  This workshop will give you the background and resources you need to engage your community in this effort.  It includes an overview of invasive species issues in Virginia, hands-on sessions on identifying and controlling invasive plants, and tips for leading educational programs and work days.  Upon completion of the workshop, you are asked to do at least one program in your community, such as an education event for the public or a stewardship event, such as an invasive plant removal day.

When and Where?  We will offer this workshop in three locations in Spring 2008. The particular speakers will vary among locations, but the workshop agenda will be basically the same.

Saturday, April 19, 9:30 am - 4:00 pm, New Kent Forestry Conference Center in Providence Forge, VA (New Kent County)

Thursday, April 24, 9:30 am - 4:00 pm, Reynolds Homestead in Critz, VA (Patrick County)

Wednesday, May 7, 9:30 am - 4:00 pm, Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve in Leesburg, VA (Loudoun County)

Who?         Any enrolled Virginia Master Naturalist volunteer. Registration is limited.

How much?  $20.00. Lunch and lots of materials (several books and field guides, binder with fact sheets, CD, and some additional teaching materials) provided.
